We’re also your local experts for installing water heaters, whether that’s replacing an older unit or for new construction. Residential-grade heaters typically range from 30 to 100 gallon tank sizes.

Commercial-grade heaters go up to somewhat larger tank sizes, and much higher tank capacities They also feature somewhat more rugged materials and construction.

Our experts will work with you to determine the right size, make, and model to provide you with plenty of hot water without paying more than you have to. We’re happy to discuss the trade-offs between installation costs and energy-use costs.

Common Water Heater Problems

  • Water leaks may come from the temperature and pressure relief valve, plumbing connections, or from the tank itself. We’re a full-service plumbing company, fully qualified to perform leak repairs wherever they might happen to be.
  • Rust-colored water is the result of corrosion of a “sacrificial anode” intended to prevent tank corrosion, or the tank itself if the anode is no longer doing its job.
  • Bad-smelling hot water comes from tank sediment harboring the growth of bacteria inside the tank.
  • Rumbling or popping noises come from excessive sediment buildup at the bottom of the tank, or scale breaking off from the sides.

Trouble Shooting Basic Problems

If you have no hot water, check the pilot light and relight it if necessary. If it doesn’t stay lit there could be a faulty pilot light, a bad thermocouple (which senses that the pilot is lit), or broken control valve.

If you’re not getting enough hot water the problem could be a broken dip tube, a bad thermostat, a poorly adjusted burner, or a blockage of the flue.

Extra caution is always in order when gas DHW heaters are concerned. Leaking gas can actually explode, and burner or exhaust flue problems pose carbon monoxide hazards.

Electric Water Heaters

When you have no hot water that might just be a circuit breaker or fuse, so check that first. If that’s a no, you could have a failed thermostat, a tripped over-temperature protection, or a main heating element may have burned out.

If you’re experiencing inadequate hot water that could also be a thermostat problem or a burned out element.

Electric hot water heaters may experience leaks around the gaskets that seal the heating elements or unusual noises from scale building up on the elements.
